What do you do when you see a glowing review of your establishment?
If you’re like most hospitality business owners, you feel that familiar glow of pride. You’re happy that somebody enjoyed their time with you. And you know the review will benefit your business.
And that’s all well and good…
But do you know what many people don’t do?
They don’t share that positive result with their people. They read the review, feel happy about it, and then go into work as normal the next day.
They don’t celebrate the positives with their team.
And here’s an example of how this can have a negative effect on morale.
Let’s say that you’ve had to give a lot of feedback to one team member in particular recently. Over time, that team member might start to feel like you’re picking on them. Every time you speak, you’re telling them how they need to do something differently.
They may start to feel isolated, both from you and the rest of the team.
You become like an annoying parent to them – always telling them that they’re doing things wrong.
The constant negative messaging builds up…
“You’re not doing this right.”
“You’re not doing that right.”
Eventually, they become so disillusioned with their job that they stop putting in their full effort. They might even quit.
When you celebrate the positives, you’re showing that team member the other side of the coin. You’re showing them how their hard work contributes to your business. And how your customers feel about it.
Now, that team member feels like they’re part of something important. They know that the feedback you’re giving helps them to create the positive things you share.
The next time you read a glowing review, don’t keep it to yourself.
Bring it into work and share it publicly with your people. Help them see that they’re doing an amazing job… And you will build stronger relationships.
So, when was the last time you let your people know about an amazing review you got?
