Foodie Coaches Retreat in Melbourne – Incredible Results In October 2023

The 3-day Foodie Coaches Retreats allow business owners to hear from the experts on how to run a great business, network, and learn from other owners with the same growth mindset. Plus, it’s a chance to unwind and gain a clearer focus on their business by spending time away from it. Each day has a number of different sessions presented by coaches or business experts, and business owners work with others at a similar stage of business growth and profitability.

Melbourne Retreat Day 1 was all about setting strong foundations—mastering the ins and outs of venue ownership and unlocking the power of strategic thinking. Members dive deep into different business models, equipping themselves for future growth. And while it’s a day of intense learning, it is also a day of recharging, filled with moments that remind us why we’re all here – to build stronger businesses and a vibrant community.

Day 2 kicked things off with a moment of mindfulness, setting the tone for an incredible day ahead and filled with many valuable takeaways. From understanding the nitty-gritty of venue audits to sparking creativity with the 120 Content Ideas activity, a lot of ground is covered. An engaging Q&A session with Executive Chef Telina Menzies (responsible for 700 chefs through the Australian Venue Company) and a deep dive into sponsored posts added more layers to the learning. But it’s not just the workshops that stand out. It’s also the real connections and the sense of community that are coming to life here.

Day 3 of the Foodies Coaches Retreat had gold-standard content right to the end. The day was jam-packed with valuable lessons, from sharpening our marketing, networking and communication games to fine-tuning partnerships and numbers. For some, the thrill of a kayak adventure was the perfect way to mix work with play, and everyone joined together in a final Wrap Party.

These retreats go beyond professional growth and strengthen the entire hospitality community. Each discussion and each piece of shared advice adds a new layer to the collective experience and wisdom.

We asked our coaches and leadership team for their favourite sessions…

Belinda Clarke and Mike Bates loved Jimmy Griffin’s ‘Kitchen Sprint’ – a super-fast action session on cutting costs and boosting efficiency. In 80 minutes, it streaked around a room of 90 people and even included an auction! It was high energy, with a very impactful message and tangible steps to take away. The room created 11 valuable kitchen processes and produced total savings @ 4% COGS of $3.5 million, all added to the total bottom line – incredible!

Jimmy Griffin’s favourite with Tim Kummerfeld’s session on ‘The Gap and The Gain’ – seeing a room full of people give themselves the credit they deserve for the work they’ve put in and the results achieved. This was also the standout for our mindset coach, Tracey Smith.

For Tim Kummerfeld, there were many highlights, and up top was the Business Audit – super simple, immediately actionable and very impactful. This new Foodie Coaches service allows members to do a detailed check on their business processes, control points and compliance – and move quickly to fix the missing elements. For many, the top priority was overlooked compliance issues that might be costly if not handled quickly. The Audit also got a big tick of approval from our bookkeeping leader, Kylie Denning and content specialist, Ken Burgin. Tim Niesler, the other leader of Foodie Coaches Accounting, was a big fan of the guest interview with Telina Menzies – pulling no punches about her own journey in the kitchen.

Ben West’s favourite was the Powerful Moments class run by Kat Maunier, showing members that the tough times don’t actually kill us even though they are hard at the time, and things always get better. It was an emotional class for some as they relived difficult situations and reflected on how things can change.

Finally, our marketing experts Simone Douglas and Meredith Waterhouse loved the sessions on 120 Days of Marketing and powerful ways to use networking to build a business – members getting out of their comfort zone and putting what they were learning into practice.
